Converting an address to a specific point location on a map – commonly referred to as geocoding – is an effective way to create GIS data. This is a valuable technique that meets a variety of research and data management needs. Geocoded addresses can be visualized along with other map features, allowing users to recognize patterns otherwise hidden within the tabular information. Participants will learn the basic techniques for creating address locators, using alternate street names and place name aliases and creating a dynamic geocoded feature class. While the workshop is intended for GIS users who are familiar with using ArcGIS, everyone is welcome and will learn the importance of displaying addresses geographically. |
